Should this 1988 BMW E30 Touring be brought back to life? It's been parked in dry storage between 2011 and 3 months ago, now it's parked outside. Initially bought by the current owner to part it out but it was considered too nice, partially due to the lack of rust. Runs and drives fine but needs brakes. Very cheap. 3 crappy pictures. It's a 6 cylinder with a manual 5-speed, a sports cloth interior, sunroof and black metallic paint. I bet the drivers seat is toast, but I haven't seen a picture. The 6 cylinder engine is sadly of the small displacement (2.0L) variety; it's a 320i.
edit: Asking price is the equivalent of $1500, with the possibility to haggle it down further. So expect $1350.

Of course it should. If the body is good you should definitely save it, all other parts are easy obtainable. Nothing wrong with a 320i. And swapping in an M20B25 is very, very easy as all brakes/struts are the same. If it's cheap let me know if you don't want it!

I'm leaning yes. But I need to know how much to tell you NPoCP. What I will say is that I love BMWs, so irrational Kat would be all about it. Rational Kat is looking for the catch.

I bet one could haggle it down to €1000. I'll be looking at it this weekend. If I decide against buying it but like the body I'll let you know. It's in Germany, less than 2 hours from Venlo.

Rational me is looking for that catch as well. Well, the obvious catch is that it hasn't been on the road for 3 years and thus doesn't have a valid inspection. Oh, and the work needed on the brakes. I worry there's another catch though.

If it's in Germany: save it. I've looked at a few E30s for sale, and rust is a huge issue. If the car has no such problems and engine and gearbox are fine, save it. Haggle it down to 600€ and then you can get a shop to give it a full break job. I guess you would then have a full working, rust free E30 for about 1k.

That seems right up my street. Solid, but a bit ratty. Bit of cleaning and minor work and you've got a nice car for cheap :)
I say go for it. 320i/6 might be odd enough for someone to want it just for that, as I don't think the States got the 2.0l 6 in any format.
